About the Board

The Board of Governors has 12 members:

  • 2 elected parent governors
  • 1 Local Authority appointed governor
  • 2 staff governors, comprising the Headteacher and 1  staff governor
  • 7 Foundation governors - 2 appointed by the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education (SDBE), 4 appointed by the Parochial Church Council of Christ Church, Brixton Road and 1 Ex-Officio Governor

The chair and vice chair are elected annually.

The term of office for all governors is 4 years.

The work of the Governors is unpaid, however the Board employs a clerk to administer the recording of the activities of the Board and offer operational advice when appropriate.

The current membership of the Board is listed below.  Our governors work in partnership with the governing board at St. Andrew's CE Primary School.

The full joint governing board meets termly 3 times a year.  In addition, the Christ Church full governing board meet twice a year in the Autumn and Summer terms.

Governors also belong to two sub-committees, Finance and Resources (including pay) and Curriculum and Standards.  These committees meet 6 times a year.

The committees each address the parts relevant to them of the statutory core functions:

The Finance and Resources Commitee generally covers all finance, personell and premises matters.  It also deals with data protection and leads on safeguarding matters.

The Curriculum and Standards Committee covers all aspects of the curriculum, pupil progress and attainment including analysis of results, pupil welfare including behaviour and attendance, well-being of the whole school community and links with parents and the local community.

The core requirement of all governors is a commitment to work to see the highest standards of teaching and learning, behaviour and personal development established and maintained at the school in order to maximise the educational progress of every pupil and the flourishing of every member of the school community.

All governors are expected to take part in regular training to develop and increase their effectiveness.
